ADVENTURE TIME
POSTED BY SAM

Adventure Time is a 2010 fantasy animated series that ran for 10 seasons (283 episodes) on Cartoon Network, ending in 2018. It has since returned for 4 hour long specials produced for the American Streaming service HBO Max.

The show follows the adventures of Jake the dog and Finn the human as they explore the post-apocalyptic world of Ooo and meet its great cast of supporting characters. From meaningful friendships and first loves, to deep betrayals and darker histories, all characters are fleshed out amazingly, and seeing them all interact is a big draw. The show also has a rich mythology stretching back centuries which gets explored more as the seasons progress.

Rebecca Sugar, one of the storyboard artists in the early seasons, pushed for LGBTQIA+ characters and relationships - an idea was vetoed by executives. The show managed to get away with a gender-fluid character called BMO, and other LGBTQIA+ themes were present in the subtext, but it wasn't until the finale that Sugars planned queer relationship would be explored fully. After years of hints at past romance, the show confirmed that the characters of Princess Bubblegum and Marceline the Vampire Queen had been a couple, and allowed them to openly show their feelings for eachother.

You can watch all 10 seasons of Adventure Time on Sky or the Now TV Kids Pass.
